How To Draw Diagrams For Physics Science Fair Projects

One of the components of a science fair project is to develop a display board. The display board not only needs to contain written information about the project that the student completed, but it also needs to contain visual components that illustrate what was done and what was learned. In many types of projects a photograph is all that is required, however, in physics science fair projects diagrams are often needed.

Decide What Type of Diagram You Need

There are many different types of diagrams that a student can create for their physics science fair project. The most basic type is a labeled drawing. This drawing does not need to be to scale as it is only intended to label the various parts of what is being studied. These drawings are usually used to explain an experiments set-up or the materials used in an experiment.

The second type of diagram is a scale drawing. A scale drawing needs to include a legend which defines the scale and precise measurements of the various elements in the diagram. A scale will need to be selected that makes sense for the object being scaled.

The third type of diagram is a schematic. These are highly technical drawings that often require the use of special software. Students will seldom need to produce a schematic. Simpler versions of schematics can be produced using graphic software programs and CAD programs.

Work from Large to Small

Regardless of what type of diagram that you need to create it is a good idea to work from large details to small details. For example, if you are creating a diagram of a floor plan you would start by drawing the shape of the exterior of the building or floor. You would then create the main divisions in the building and finally add specific details to each space like wall partitions, windows and utilities. This process helps you to keep your drawing in balance and it helps to make the recreation of the object easier to do.

Identify Before Labeling

One of the tasks associated with creating a diagram for physics science fair project is labeling the elements in the diagram. Before you start labeling your diagram you need to make sure you know what everything is. By identifying things before you label you will reduce the chances that you will make a mistake. Create a list of labels that starts at the top of the page at the 12 oclock position and that rotates around the diagram clock wise.

Create Your Labels

Labeling your diagram is one of the last things that you will need to do. Labels have several parts. The first part is the line to the element. This connects the label with what the label identifies. The second part is the label. The label needs to be written clearly and it needs to be sized to fit the space. The final element is a label legend. The legend provides extra information about the labels and the diagram. Usually the legend will give the scale of the diagram, it will define codes and it will expand abbreviated labels.

Mechanical 2d Drafting And Mechanical 2d Drawing

Mechanical 2D Drafting is creation of accurate representations of objects for manufacturing and engineering needs. You can also say that mechanical 2D drafting is unique process of creating accurate representations of objects for manufacturing and engineering projects. With the help of mechanical 2D drawings we can define the clarity of the projections.

Mechanical 2D drawings fully and clearly define requirements for concepts or products, and are usually created in accordance with standardized conventions for layout, nomenclature, interpretation, appearance, size, etc. Mechanical 2D drafting essentially has to accurately and clearly capture all the geometric features of a product or a component and thus convey all the required information that will allow a manufacturer to produce that component.

Mechanical 2D Drafting include services such as drawing from abstract sketches, paper to CAD Conversions, Image to DWG formats ,mechanical parts and components, assembly drawings, fabrication drawings, piping diagrams, translation to other 3D Software etc. One extension of 2D drafting is 3D wire frame. Each line has to be manually inserted into the drawing. The final product has no mass properties associated with it and cannot have features directly added to it, such as holes.

Mechanical 2D Drafting and 2D Drawings services includes following services:

Mechanical Cad Drafting
Conceptual Layout
Machine Design
2D View of Assembly

Facts of perpetual motion.

years ago I became interested in the theory of the existence of perpetual motion.I looked it up on the internet and to my surprise I found that a lot of people claim that they have designed or even build devices that proof the existence of perpetual motion. This fascinated me and I started doing research by means of reading articles and watching on line videos.Soon it became clear that a lot people do not really understand what the theory of perpetual motion is.

According to Wikipedia, perpetual motion is (quoted) ” motion that continues indefinitely without any external source of energy” or “the motion of a hypothetical machine which, once activated, would run forever unless subject to an external force or to wear”.Therefor I find a big difference between perpetual motion and changing one form of energy to another form of energy.

The laws of energy is simple.”energy cannot be created or destroyed, but only be transformed from one form to another.”It is constantly happening all around us.For example, think of a household electrical kettle. You put water in it and switch it on.After a while it turn cold water to boiling water. This will not be possible if the kettle is not using electrical energy. So it converts electrical energy to heat.Any object that is in motion while in contact with another object will generate heat due to friction. It is the by- product of changing one form of energy to another form of energy.

I wanted to experiment with magnets to see if I can create a kinetic device that would keep on moving once it started.I started making designs using a CAD(computer aided drawing) program on my computer. It looked good and I was convinced that I have found an design that will work. After buying magnets and having parts made by an precision engineering shop,it was time to put it all together and see if it works.

To my surprise,it did not work due to one factor that I did not think about. That is balance. Not the type that people use to walk on ropes using balancing poles, but magnetic balance.I call it nature`s balance. No matter what I tried, the magnets always balances each other out by ending in an state of equilibrium. That meant it was back to my CAD program. After a few, long nights in front of the my computer and many different designs,I finally had a design that looked promising.

The next day I went back to the engineering shop with my new design.During the next few days, while waiting for the parts,I went on to the Internet to see if someone had made something that is similar to my design. What a shock it was when I found out that not only was my design already build, but it had a name.It was called a V-gate.

One thing that I had noticed was that a lot of people called it an perpetual motion device. In some cases people even called it a “free energy device”.I disagree with this, because it is still an device that converts one form of energy to another form of energy. In this case magnetic energy is used to create kinetic energy.Therefor I see it the same as an car`s engine which uses fuel to create motion.

So what about perpetual motion? The word “motion” means that what ever is used to proof the existence of perpetual motion is going to move, therefor it will have kinetic energy. To create kinetic energy without using any other form of energy some laws of the universe will have to be broken.

One should take in consideration the laws of thermodynamics, which is basically the following:
First law: “Energy is always conserved, it cannot be created or destroyed. That means energy can be converted from one form into another”.
Second law: “In all energy exchanges, if no energy enters or leaves the system, the potential energy of the state will always be less than that of the initial state.” This is also referred to as entropy.”
Third law: “As temperature approaches absolute zero, the entropy of a system approaches a minimum.”
Fourth law: “When body A is in thermal equilibrium with body B and body B is in thermal equilibrium with body C, then body A is in thermal equilibrium with body C.”

That facts is simple.Perpetual motion will always stay at an theory level unless an way is found to break the laws of thermodynamics.Therefor designing an device that converts magnetic energy to kinetic energy is definitely not perpetual motion, but an interesting thing to do.It would not have been so interesting to design,if I did not have a CAD program and a computer, for all the research,to design it on.
